This news comes as the official number of UK coronavirus cases reported has reached 1,950; up 407 cases in 24 hours, the number of confirmed deaths will be announced later today.
Sir Patrick Vallance Appeared before the health select committee, where he was asked how accurate it was to assume that 1 in every 1000 cases of the coronavirus resulted in death.
Because if this was the case, that would mean the current number of COVID-19 cases would be closer to 55,000, than the current reported number of 1,950.
To this question, Vallance replied:
“We’ve tried to get a handle on that in Sage (the scientific advisory group for emergencies) and if you put all the modelling information together, that’s a reasonable ballpark way of looking at it.”
“It’s not more accurate than that.”
NHS chief executive, Sir Simon Stevens, has said that all non-urgent surgery will be suspended for 3 months from 15 April
.Britons are also being advised to avoid all non-essential foreign travel for 30 days due to coronavirus.
