Schools in the UK could be re-opened after the Easter holidays if the lockdown continues to be successful, a minister has claimed

The Government is now planning for the next stage of Britain’s battle against the coronavirus, including reopening Schools in the UK.

Speaking to the Times, a senior Minister has claimed that sending kids back to school would help the British public get back to normal.

They said: “We need to be led by the science, of course.”

“But if we can reopen schools after the Easter holidays things could begin to get back to normal. It could kick-start the economy.”

Several ministers are said to believe that schools should be reopening after two weeks following the Easter holidays, that would of course be a break from school in more usual times.

The government in Denmark has already announced plans to reopen schools in their country for children aged 11 and under, and say most of the classes will be taking place outside.

Britain is now on its third week of its lockdown, which was announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on the 23rd of March, the current measures was due to be reviewed on Easter Monday.

It is estimated that the peak of the virus is to happen this weekend

, but of course, this depends on how successful the lockdown measures have been so far.

During yesterday’s daily coronavirus press briefing, Chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance, said that the slight drop shown in the numbers of new infections shows that the UK could now see the curve start to flatten.

He said: “It’s possible that we’re beginning to see the beginning of change in terms of the curve flattening a little bit.

“We won’t know that for sure for a week or so.”

Until Britain has a full testing routine in place, it is thought that the lockdown won’t be able to be lifted.

The lockdown is predicted to be ended in phases, as the Treasury worries that businesses won’t be able to survive past June.

Health minister Ed Argar has said that the United Kingdom was “not at the stage” yet where there is a possibility that the lockdown measures can be relaxed.
