Another 621 patients in hospitals around the UK have died after contracting COVID-19, which has taken the UK’s total to 4,934 fatalities.
Public Health England has reported that 555 of those 621 deaths occured in England, Public Health Wales recorded 12 in Wales and the Public Health Agency said there had been 7 in Northern Ireland.
In Scotland, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said that there had been an additional two deaths due to the coronavirus in Scotland, she also said that the country is now using a different way of counting deaths.
According to the Department of Health, the number who have tested positive across the UK, as of 9am on Sunday morning, now stands at 47,806.
The rise in cases of COVID-19, as well as the number of deaths, comes after Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, said that outdoor exercise could be banned if people continue to ignore the social distancing rules
that are currently in place.With temperatures rising, he stressed that sunbathing in public spaces was against the current government guidance, and went on to say that those doing so are are putting their own and others’ lives at risk.
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has been the worst hit health trust in the UK, with 210 people having died with COVID-19 related symptoms there.
In London, Barts Health Trust, the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, Kings College Hospital Foundation Trust, and Royal Free London NHS Trust have all recorded more than 100 deaths.
Later today, the Queen will address the nation, and will presumably urge the country to prove it’s strength it a time of such crisis and uncertainty.
