Over 100,000 Cases of COVID-19 Reported in the UK

The cases of infection of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom has reached over 100,000 cases, as the country is in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic

The UK government have announced that the amount of people in the UK that have contracted the coronavirus has surpassed 100,000 cases, as the number of people to have died in the nation is reportedly over 13,729 fatalities.

This news comes as another 861 COVID-19 deaths in UK hospitals takes total past 13,000.

At yesterday’s daily coronavirus press briefing, Chief Medical Officer Prof Chris Whitty said:

“We have not hit a point we can say confidently and safely this is past the peak and we can think about the next stages.”

He said he expected the number of recorded deaths to jump mid-week after a four-day bank holiday weekend.

Matt Hancock said it was too early to make changes and the advice remained to everybody to “stay home”.

NHS England said another 740 coronavirus patients had died in hospitals in England, taking its total to 12,396.

The First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, has also announced that another 80 have died in the country.

Wales has recorded a further 32 deaths, and Northern Ireland has now reported another 18 fatalities in the country.

In each country that makes up the UK, the number of deaths now stands at:

• England – 12,396
• Scotland – 779
• Wales – 495
• Northern Ireland – 158
